Nestling on the western shore of Lyme Bay – a World Heritage Site – with Portland Bill often in sight across its miles of blue waters, Dawlish is a small, friendly town dating from Saxon times. Today it is noted for its black swans – the town mascot – which glide on Dawlish Water – a lazy current which splits the wide, lush grassy Green and the two main shopping streets of the town. Great to laze by on a warm, sunny day with a locally made ice cream! And twixt Exeter and Torbay, with miles of walking close by, plus plenty of trains and buses. The railway station is just a 5 minute walk.
Both of our self-catering properties are close by the shops and Dawlish’s long and delightful beaches – for pre-breakfast or brunch walks perhaps? A leisurely sea wall walk takes you to the famed long sandy bathing beaches of Dawlish Warren, skirting the entrance of the Exe Estuary, and its nature reserve full of rare flowers, unusual birds and hidden ponds.
Dawlish enjoys a range of interesting, small shops, pubs and restaurants, an intimate amateur theatre, public library and a full sports centre – all within easy walking of our property.
